MPI-GCC ECOS Project

Bringing In the Bounty

We cannot live only for ourselves.  A thousand fibers connect us with our fellow men.  ~Herman Melville

MPI’s ECOS project has brought together the Greater Calgary Chapter and two of our great neighbours.  MPI GCC and AVW TELAV are partnering with the Calgary Interfaith Food Bank this December to help feed the hungry and we need our members’ involvement to make this vision come true.

“Building up to Christmas and just after are such critical times for those in need in Calgary and this project is a great opportunity for our community to help out individuals & families in financial stress, build our team spirit and give back” – Janet Bennett, Regional Director, Western Canada

WHAT IS ECOS?

Events for Communities of Sustainability

Pilot Project Canada

Meeting Professionals International crafted the Events for Communities of Sustainability (ECOS) Project to provide focus for the efforts that are being made in the area of social responsibility and sustainability, one of the three pillars of the triple bottom line of people, planet and profit. To maximize the ability of our industry (and specifically our association) to create positive social change, we have launched a pilot project within the Canadian Chapters to refine the project.

This is for several reasons. First, Canadian chapters have demonstrated a firm commitment to the triple bottom line, through participation in creating VERTigo: Plan to Meet Green, through a CSR-focus at National Meetings Industry Day (the last three years have focused on economy, environment and people) and through the creation, at several chapters, of the position of Director of CSR. Secondly, it will allow us to refine ECOS with the input of a smaller sub-section of chapters. This gives the Canadian chapters the unique opportunity to co-create the final project before it is launched globally. Finally, Canadian chapter leaders have indicated that their membership is ready to move past “green meetings” into a more integrated social responsibility program.

The pilot project funded by the MPI Foundation and its partner AVW-TELAV.
